Polymeric Microresonators: From Whispering Galleries to Random Resonators

The main part of the talk will describe the fabrication, optical properties, and application of whispering gallerymicroresonators made from polymers.

The main part of the talk will describe the fabrication, optical properties, and application of whispering gallerymicroresonators made from polymers. These cavities feature ultra-high Q-factors and low threshold lasing  when doped with laser dyes or quantum dots. Coupling of two resonators to photonic molecules leads to mode splitting and super-mode lasing. The resonators can be easily functionalized for marker-free detection of selectively binding  bio-molecules. Finally I will report on lasing from random cavities in dye-doped polymer cotton.
